This document is to assist in finding the correct settings for successful use and deployment of the RangerEdge. All units come with a default configuration, but can differ based on the release data. So in any case all settings need to be double-checked before deployment.
Most optimal settings for RangerEdge devices depend on the actual use-case. Please use the examples below as reference and and adapt these settings to match your application. When in doubt, please contact the Smart Parks team.
Example settings for different applications:
Use the available buttons to get into the needed configuration window.
- Radio settings:
- Region: EU
- Data rate (for EU)
- 0 = SF12 → Use this if LoRaWAN coverage and or terrain is less optimal
- 1 = SF11 → Use this only in a very good LoRaWAN network coverage
- Re-join interval: 1 hour
- Almanac status:
- try to update almanac → not a problem is this does not work, as we do intend to use the LP1 GPS
- View and edit keys → please only change this if really needed and default credentials are compromised
- Status - port 4: 1 hour
- LP1 GPS: - port 1: OFF → Only needed in extreme low power applications
- Rest: OFF
- GPS Interval 1: 15 minutes
- Fix settings:
- Cold fix
- Number of retries: 200
- Timeout: 200 seconds
- Hot fix
- Number of retries: 4
- Timeout: 90 seconds
- Backoff factor: OFF
- Motion: OFF
- Active T: OFF

- Sending to LP1: ON
- Storing in flash: ON
- Status - port 4:
- Sending to LP1: ON

It is advised to download and/or clear the device logs regularly to ensure the logs do not contain unwanted data.
Clear all logs before final deployment
Please use the Basic tracker configuration to configure the device and adjust the following settings to make the device more suitable for this application:
- GPS Interval 1: 5 minutes (Custom → 300 seconds)
- Fix settings:
- Cold fix
- Number of retries: 200
- Timeout: 200 seconds
- Hot fix
- Number of retries: 4
- Timeout: 90 seconds
- Backoff factor: OFF
- Motion: ON
- Motion threshold: 1
- Send position regardless of motion trigger on every 12 th fix → this means with the GPS Interval 1 set to 5 minutes, the device will try to get a GPS fix every 60 minutes (12 x 5 minutes), even if the device is not moving.
- Active T: OFF → only turn ON in emergencies
Only turn active tracking ON in case of emergency when not connected to an external power source.
Please use the Basic tracker configuration to configure the device and adjust the following settings to make the device more suitable for this application:
- GPS Interval 1: 3 minutes (Custom → 180 seconds)
- Fix settings:
- Cold fix
- Number of retries: 200
- Timeout: 200 seconds
- Hot fix
- Number of retries: 4
- Timeout: 90 seconds
- Backoff factor: OFF
- Motion: ON
- Motion threshold: 6
- Send position regardless of motion trigger on every 20 th fix → this means with the GPS Interval 1 set to 3 minutes, the device will try to get a GPS fix every 60 minutes (20 x 3 minutes), even if the device is not moving.
- Active T: ON → only when connected to the vehicle battery
Only turn active tracking ON when the device is connected to the vehicle battery. Otherwise the device will need to be recharged after a few days.
