This document is to assist in finding the correct settings for successful use and deployment of the FenceEdge. All units come with a default configuration, but can differ based on the release data. So in any case all settings need to be double-checked before deployment.
Most optimal settings for FenceEdge devices depend on the actual use-case. Please use the examples below as reference and and adapt these settings to match your application. When in doubt, please contact the Smart Parks team.
Example settings for different applications:
Use the available buttons to get into the needed configuration window.
- Radio settings:
- Region: EU
- Data rate (for EU)
- 0 = SF12 → Use this if LoRaWAN coverage and or terrain is less optimal
- 1 = SF11 → Use this only in a very good LoRaWAN network coverage
- Re-join interval: 1 hour
- Almanac status:
- try to update almanac → not a problem is this does not work, as we do intend to use the LP1 GPS
- View and edit keys → please only change this if really needed and default credentials are compromised
- Status - port 4: 1 hour
- Rest: OFF
Use this setting when you want to be able to track the device using GNSS positions - once the device accelerometer is triggered by motion.
- GPS Interval 1: 15 minutes
- Fix settings:
- Cold fix
- Number of retries: 200
- Timeout: 200 seconds
- Hot fix
- Number of retries: 4
- Timeout: 90 seconds
- Backoff factor: OFF
- Motion: ON
- Active T: OFF
- Settings - port 3:
- Sending to LP1: ON
- Storing in flash: ON
- Status - port 4:
- Sending to LP1: ON
- Storing in flash: ON
- LP1 GPS - port 1:
- Sending to LP1: ON
- Storing in flash: ON
- Ublox GPS - port 2:
- Sending to LP1: ON
- Storing in flash: ON
- Memfault - port 27:
- Sending to LP1: ON
- Storing in flash: ON
- Fence monitoring - port 12:
- Sending to LP1: ON
- Storing in flash: ON
- Rest:
- Sending to LP1: OFF

- Fence monitoring
- Fence support: ON
- Measurement interval: 600 seconds (10 minutes)
- Measurement length: 10 seconds
- Scaling factor: → use the calibrate function to set the correct value
- Connect the FenceEdge to the electric fence you want to monitor and press the calibrate button while the fence is performing normal.
- Then use a standard fence fault finder to measure the electric fence voltage.
- Enter this measured voltage into the App → the Scaling factor will be altered according to the manually measured fence voltage.
- Check this by reading the Measured results
